In 1987, GM switched most of its engines over to TBI. This allowed more power and more efficiency at the same time.
The 305 during this time period came with both roller arms and without, making acme with optional roller cams, used predominantly on the high-performance GM vehicles of the era.
Those without rollers were used in trucks, vans, and SUVs of the era.
The L03 used GM’s throttle body fuel injection system, and it served as the base engine for GM C/K 1500s and 2500s. It could also be found in the less costly Firebirds, Camaros, and other performance vehicles.
The LB9 was introduced in 1985. It was, in many ways, the L69 shortblock and used the same aggressive cam shaft. In 1985, it was only available in the Camaro Z28, IROC-Z, and the Trans Am with the WS6 performance suspension. Later, it was included in the 1987-92 GTA and Firebird Formula.
