Oil Recommendations for MABBCO Long or Short Block

Oil Recommendations for MABBCO Long or Short Block

  1. Always use the type of oil and SAE recommended by the engine’s original equipment manufacturer.
  2. Always use new oil and new oil filter when initially installing the MABBCO long or short block.
  3. After the initial installation change the oil and filter after the first 50 miles and again after the first 1,000 miles.
  4.  In recent years oil manufactures have reduced the zinc in modern motor oils because it is not required for motors with roller lifter. However, in motors with flat lifters during the first 1,000 miles zinc is required for the lifter and camshaft to properly break-in. Therefore, if your motor has flat lifters, during the 1,000 mile break-in period use the following:
    1. During the initial installation - Add one container of an additive with ZDDP to your normal oil or one quart of Lucas Break-In Oil Additive in place of one quart of your regular oil.
    2. At the 50 mile oil and filter change – Add one container of an additive with ZDDP to your normal oil or one quart of Lucas Break-In Oil Additive in place of one quart of your regular oil.
  5. Do not use synthetic oil or a synthetic oil blend for the first 5,000 miles after the initial installation, unless synthetic oil or a synthetic oil blend is the type of oil recommended by the engine’s original equipment manufacturer.
